Karate is the key to self-defense. Karate translated means empty-hands. It is a way of defending ones self bare handed against an attacker. This program is a regular class of Karate which shows the stances, blocks, kicks, punches, drills, combinations and the correct way to do each technique. The student will only reach success of a technique only by listening and becoming obedient to the instructions that are received. This program will also include small lectures to the students on character building, doing things properly, why right choices are good, importance of kindness, supporting and encouraging others, value of a healthy state of mind, working hard to achieve a goal, how to not be quickly discouraged, to think things through and how refreshing exercise can be. Karate is a very good method of building self-confidence, self-control and self-discipline. Fitness with Karate is a great way to get excited about exercise. The benefit of exercise is very rewarding. Karate helps reduce high-blood pressure, obesity, and stress. It also helps build stronger muscles and more flexibility. It creates a very positive attitude on life itself. Today Karate is taught as a sport and self-defense. As a sport, the students try to score points on each other without being scored upon. First three points is a match. We practice this method in class when we are sparing. Over a period of time this will build confidence. They are to touch without impact or causing injuries to one another. This is control. Of one’s temper flies, the match is stopped, the person is warned and they are allowed to calm themselves down. This is self-discipline. Over a period of time, they will become good at the sport and governing themselves. Students will learn to relate these methods to other outside activities. For example: better school grades, constant practice in karate, constant study in the books; this will lead to advancement. Karate will leave the student with a good sense of accomplishment in life. All students must understand we don’t wish to fight, but we have a right to defend ourselves. The style of Karate James Dozier teaches is called Goju-Shorin. It is a balance between the mental and the physical part of Karate. Goju-Shorin was founded by Mr. Bill McDonald. You can find more information on this style of Karate by clicking the link below.
